Official Travel
Agency
Carlson Wagonlit is the official travel agency
for the General Assembly. To make airline reservations, call
Carlson Wagonlit at (800) 634-5656 between the hours of 8:30
a.m. and 5:00 p.m. weekdays (Eastern time). Participants who
are responsible for paying their own expenses will need a major
credit card.
Carlson Wagonlit charges a service fee of
$30 in addition to the cost of the ticket.
Commissioners and advisory delegates are required
to use this agency and to book their travel at least 30 days
in advance to have their travel charges paid by the assembly.
Be sure to tell the agent if you are a commissioner or advisory
delegate, or an official participant whose GA agency is paying
your travel costs. Commissioners and advisory delegates should
schedule travel in order to be present for the opening of the
General Assembly at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on June
26.
Commissioners and advisory delegates should
review the separate special information brochure that is included
in their packets.
Official Airlines
Delta Air Lines and USAirlines are the official
airlines for this assembly. They are offering special discounts
(with an additional 5 percent on reservations booked at least
60 days in advance), special “zone” fares that benefit
travelers who do not qualify for the lowest Saturday-night-stay
fares, and other provisions that result in savings for attendees
and for the church.
The easiest way to take advantage of these
discounts is to make travel arrangements through Carlson Wagonlit.
These agents will check all carriers for the lowest fare and
will automatically apply appropriate discounts and ensure that
the church receives credit for other provisions in these contracts.
Commissioners and advisory delegates must
use Carlson Wagonlit. Other participants who choose not to use
Carlson Wagonlit may still receive the airline discounts by
calling (or having their travel agent call) the following numbers
and providing the reference numbers given:
Delta Meeting Network (800) 241-6760
File # 202633A
USAirways Meeting Reservations (877) 874-7687
Gold File Number 90612988
Amtrak
Richmond has good Amtrak service, and some attendees (especially
those in the eastern corridor) will find this more economical
and convenient than flying or driving. Go to Amtrak.com
to check schedules and fares; the Main Street Station in Richmond
is the closest to the downtown hotels.
Reminders
- Carlson-Wagonlit reservations: (800) 634-5656
- Book early—at least 60 days in advance,
no less than 21 days in advance
- Ask about senior citizen discounts if
you’re over the age of 60
- Know your schedule before making your
reservation—change fees are expensive and usually not
reimbursable.
Airport Ground Transportation
Assembly shuttle service will be provided
from the airport to the assembly hotels on Friday and Saturday,
June 25 and 26, and for returns to the airport on Saturday,
July 3. Commercial shuttle service between the airport and downtown
is about $16 each way, and taxi fare is about $20.
Detailed information on airport transportation
services will be sent to registered participants in advance.
The Richmond Airport is about 10-15 minutes
from downtown. Allow at least an hour from your scheduled arrival
time for claiming baggage, ground transportation, and checking
into your hotel. For return flights, plan to be at the airport
at least an hour in advance.
Getting Around in Richmond
Assembly shuttle service will be provided
between the Convention Center and most of the assembly hotels.
These services will be scheduled around the assembly program
of events. Most participants will find that automobiles are
not necessary.
For those who want or need a car, Avis
is offering car rental discounts for the assembly. See the brochure
in the registration packet. Reservations can be made by calling
(800) 331-1600 or on line at avis.com.
Mention AWD # B950498.
