The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) professes that racism, in all its forms, is contrary to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Yet it acknowledges that racism is a reality in both church and society. In faithful witness to the love of Christ, the church is committed to confronting the ideology of racism and racial oppression, working to overcome racism with prayer, discernment and worship-based action.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day, January 19, and Race Relations Sunday, January 18, provide opportunities to celebrate the diversity of God's family. Use these worship resources and reflections as you plan celebrations in your congregation.
Take note
Join congregations around the country in the upcoming Lenten season in study and celebration of the faith of the church. Alive to God in Jesus Christ, the newest book in the I Believe series, includes 40 devotional readings and a five-session study guide. Incorporate themes from the book into weekly worship or in personal devotions.
As we celebrate the 500th anniversary of John Calvin’s birth in 2009, we Presbyterians have an opportunity to reintroduce ourselves to Calvin’s legacy. Take the time to get to know Calvin better this year by reading through his major theological work Institutes of the Christian Religion — choose from two online reading plans.
